Groups for children and young people
Sunday GangSunday Gang is a group for 2-10 year olds, it is run along the concept of Godly Play. The bible story is told, using especially made knitted people to make it interactive, there is a collective ‘I wonder’ time where we all think about the bible story together, then the children have a choice of what they do during an activity time, there is a prepared craft activity relating to the bible story, a table with photocopied activities relating to the bible story, a free-craft table where they can do any craft they want, some toys and the knitted figures that can be played with, and a table with bibles and Christian music with personal cd players that they can use.
We finish off with a ‘feast and fellowship’ time where we all have a drink and biscuit and say prayers. Each of the sections relates to something that helps us with our Christian life whatever age we are, and if you would like to know more about how it runs please do contact us and our junior church Superintendant Karen would be very happy to talk to you about it. |
Rock 'n' RollThe Rock ‘n’ Roll group (age 11-16 year olds) is a bible based discussion group which encourages the children to look at what the bible says and discuss how that impacts/affects the reality of their everyday lives. The main resource they use is the bible but they also use modern media to help them think about this (i.e. DVD, magazines, news footage).
They have previously looked at the 'Torchlighters' series of DVD's that tell us about Christian people who have made a difference because of their faith, such as Corrie Ten Boom, have had some weeks looking at the 'BIG Question' asking any questions they have. Recently they have organised and successfully run a charity event for Dover Outreach Centre, raising £285 to help the homeless. |
